Morale was high as we departed the LYF Center. After hearing a message on “humility” by the Oklahoma pastor, we were energized to get out of the comfort zone of the and perform service for the outside community. Although a lack of sleep had fatigued our bodies, the Holy Spirit filled our hearts and filled our souls.

The directions we were given were confusing and unclear, and finding the work site was no easy matter. Seeing this, we established that staying positive at all times was a fundamental element to a productive work day. We used the time lost as motivation to work even harder thoughout the day.

The smiles on the faces of the home owners were proof that God’s love had been shown through us. “Her eyes were grateful for the work that was about to be done” quoted eighth grader Hutson. The Spirit of Christ was truly with us as we interacted with them, allowing us to humble ourselves before them in a compassionate and loving manner.

The sun shown as bright as our spirits as it beamed down upon us. The intense heat only made our productivity more rewarding. “The sun was really hot. I have paint all over me, but what we’re doing this for makes it all worth while” stated senior Olga Carvallo. We worked hard as a team, splitting up the day’s work among us and supporting one another throughout. When asked about her first impressions of the team, leader Mary Lynn declared, “They are wonderful, hard-working and eager.”

As day one of working drew to a close, our aspirations and thoughts of what was to come boomed with excitement. We stood proudly at what God had blessed these people with; a newly painted house, produced by hands gifted by the Lord Himself. As exclaimed by third grader Reagan Pace, “The change that was brought here really shows how God can move in us.” it is really inspiring that we, a group of grade school students, can influence our communities and world in such an impact-full way and bring about the advancement of Christ’s Kingdom in the world.
